“More Irish Songs We Learned At School”
Released November 13th 2009
Last Christmas, who would have thought that a charming little album of old Irish songs that were drummed into us in school would have such an effect on adults and children alike throughout the entire country! An album that could not keep up with demand, such was it’s popularity. The album went on to be the biggest selling Irish Album of 2008, and became the “must have” gift for home and abroad.
Can he do it again? Of course he can! Throughout the year, John has been inundated with requests for more of these songs. Still too many to go on the album, such is the wealth of musical heritage in this country. . John is joined by two great heroes of Irish song; Christy Moore and Seán Ó Sé. and featuring the students of Coláiste Choilm and GaelCholáiste Choilm, Ballincollig, Co. Cork, with teacher Catherine Frost.
Including more favourites such as ‘Buachaill on Eirne’ and ‘Dilin O Deamhas’, and a beautiful version of ‘Oiche Chiuin’ (Silent Night) this is another treasure trove of Irish songs that will whisk you back to your childhood. This is a charming album and will be a great gift for those nostalgic about their childhood songs, and also great for teaching children these songs that could sadly be dying out without these lovely recordings. You’ll remember more songs that you think you know!
Educational and entertaining, ‘Irish Songs We Learned At School’ is the perfect gift this Christmas.
